"Orthopedics" is a broad term that includes medical fields that treat
illnesses and conditions related to the body's skeletal or muscular systems. Chiropractors
are licensed professionals who specialize in skillfully applying pressure to the
area of the spine that is out of alignment. Physical Therapists work with patients
to improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities
that are due to injuries or disease. Podiatrists treat major foot and lower leg
disorders. Muscle Therapy is often used as a complement to physical therapy or
chiropractic treatment programs, and is usually administered by a neuromuscular
therapist who has received special training in the assessment and treatment of
painful muscle conditions. Tension headaches, shoulder and neck pain, and complicated
back or hip pain are relieved using muscle release techniques. Orthopedic physicians
in particular treat medical problems associated with the bones, joints and ligaments
of the body.
